I have a Twin Turbo Tundra (+1000WHP on E85) that I daily drive. I'm using a Haltech Elite 2500 with a PD16 to run the engine.
I'm currently running an upgraded stock transmission with a high stall converter, but I can't trans brake and it takes 100s of ms to shift. This is limiting my 60' times significantly not to mention it generates a lot of heat when the converter is unlocked which makes me believe it's not very efficient in delivering power from the engine to the wheels.
I was looking to swap in a Turbo 400 or a powerglide but those ancient transmissions are a pain to daily drive so I decided to go the 8HP route.
I got an 8HP90 out of wrecked 2018 Hellcat. Transmission dimensions are close to the stock transmission. Being a truck, I have a lot of room to work with, so no problem there. I'm currently working with Domi-works to develop an adapter. Transmission mount and driveshaft can be done locally.
The Turbolamik TCU I got from 8speed.au with their basic kit, wiring harness and a DCT shifter. I think I have everything I need ordered and in progress.
Once the transmission is mated to the engine and working properly, I will then get the Stage 3 Pure Drivetrain Solution 8HP90 with the high stall converter. It's rated at 2000HP which is overkill for my 1500HP target but will give me ease of mind.
I contacted Turbolamik on Instagram and they told me they think the TCU should work on a Dodge 8HP90. Has anyone here tried it on one or any other 8HP90/95s?
I hope I don't run into many issues with the swap. I'll keep the thread updated as I go through with the project.
