I have the same car ,and i'm trying to do the same thing , can you please help on wiring the paddle shifters?
The car originally didn't have the paddles , so i retrofitted them and wired them to the (blue/yellow and blue/grey wires on white connector in the picture ) but since you seem to use those to transmit info from tcu to the car , now i'm not sure where to wire my paddles to tcu , pin10 to paddle + and pin 19 to paddle - ,is that correct?
And what did you have to do to display D8 ,mine only goes to d7?
Congrats on the project!!

Please confirm what type of paddles you have. There were ordinary switches or variable resistance MUX

hi , i have first gen paddles ,the ones you can push and pull, wired directly from paddles to pin 36 and 37 on tcu and oem wires (blue/yellow for upshift and blue/grey for downshift).

To get D8 you can enable it in the settings on Tuner Pro.

It can be found here:
"CAN -> Can2(Engine) -> Enable Send 8Gear Can2"

That's right, not every BMW can display 8 gears and that's why it's disabled by default.
If you run the options and the car is not able to display the 8th gear, there will be a lot of errors on the dash. Then you have to turn it off and it can't be displayed 8

how i know, only E70/71 dash and E84 dash (and any other from E89 platfrom) can show 8 gear, because of 8hp from factory. E60/63 not able to.
