Hello - 8HP55??

Hi all, hopefully someone will be able to offer a bit of advice. Looking at an Audi project using an 8HP55 from a late (2019) RS5 on the back of a fairly old school 5 cylinder 20v turbo motor in an old B2 platform Audi saloon.

From what I’ve read the 55 is the smallest version of the medium/large transmissions & therefore is probably closer to a 70 than a 50 but maybe wrong on this.

The 55 isn’t specifically mentioned in the supported transmission list but just looking for a bit of guidance on if it is likely to be able to get it working to an acceptable level without an undue amount of faffing?

Any advice is gratefully received!

Thanks Stewart.

8hp55 works with TCU. This is a bit problematic because it comes in a version with an electronic Selector or Selector for a cable cord.

The problem with them is that in addition to reworking the electronics in the box, you need to complete the missing wires in the harness between the electronics and the plug. The harnesses between the electronics and the plug also come in at least 3 versions, and at least that's what I've seen so far.

When the missing wires are completed, the electronics remains to be reworked and here again there are two versions. If it is without a cable cord, the board must be soldered standard as for BMW. If the gearbox has a cable cord, then the board to be converted is different with additional resistors because you have to read the position of the gearbox from the sensor inside gearbox.

We don't officially support the 8hp55 yet because the interest in this type of transmission is low and we didn't have enough cars for the test.

In conclusion 8hp55 can work with tcu but it is a bit more difficult and may not yet work as well as other cases we officially support.

Hi, thanks for the detailed reply, extremely useful. The transmission I have is from June 2019 & has the “shift by wire” rather than the mechanical style “shift by Bowden cable” setup of the earlier transmissions. It has a release cable for the park pawl but that’s it.

Hopefully based on your reply it will be basically the BMW mechatronic rework with possibly some extra wiring mods which is straightforward enough to work through.

I have a BMW mechatronic as a reference too.

Thanks.
