Shifting form P to D with paddles possible?

Hi,
I'm running a 8HP70 with a LS3 on a EMU Pro/ECUMaster PMU and have a CAN-Keypad connected to the PMU. There are 3 Buttons for P, N and R, signals are send via CAN to TurboLamik via CAN 7 as well as the foot brake signal. This is working and I'm able to go into P, N and R. Program mode is set via CAN message to be 7, as I'm not planning to run any other mode (drift car).
My current problem is, I'm not getting in any forward gear. I have just some paddles hooked up to Pin 11/12. Button Up ALL and Button Down ALL are showing that they are working as well. But no matter how often or how long I push up or down, nothing is happening. Do I need a button to go into D first? Shouldn't I be able to go at least from R to N or D by pushing paddle up?
