MK4 Supra clutch slipt strategy

Post by jparch »

Hello all !
I have a 98 Supra VVTi single turbo running a Motec M150. I did the 8hp70 swap last May ( i am pretty sure first one in Canada ) and recently finished up the project and have been driving the last few months. This trans with the turbolamik tcu has completely transformed the car! my question is will enabling the clutch slipt cause excessive wear on the trans? i have tested it and makes moving in and out of park so much nicer , but if it comes at a cost i will not activate it. thanks to all the members on this forum, sometimes it was frustrating setting up, but i found this place invaluable!

As far as I know, if setup correctly, it shouldn't wear down your clutches.

The logic behind it is that the clutch will stop slipping as soon as there is enough torque, the torque applied while slipping is insignificant and is the reason you slip the clutch in that torque range in the first place.

Keep your eye on the oil temp and as long as it doesn't increase rapidly while slipping it should be fine.

I have a Supra too looking to perform the swap, how were you able to source your gearbox? Also what kind of labor quotes did shops usually give you?
