Downshift harshness

Post by Jeurum »

Hi,

I am experiencing some really harsh downshifts both in auto and manual mode.
Downshifting from 8th till 5th is smooth, anything below is really clunky and violent.

My set-up:

Toyota Aristo with single turbo 2JZ (Maxxecu)
BMW 8hp70 trans
Fully solid drivetrain (so I notice any harsh shifts very fast)

Upshifts are spot on, but when I am slowing down and downshifting, especially from 5 to 2, the gearshifts are extremely harsh and shake the whole car. They are also pretty slow compared to upshifting..
At first I thought the harshness came from the converter being locked but even when unlocked it's the same.

I did an experient while driving in mode P8, 8th gear and coming to a complete stop. While idling I shifted down to 2nd and the shifts were also very slow and clunky.

I have no throttle blips currently, some throttle is easing up the downshifts a little I noticed (at least in the higher gears, not 4/3/2), but it should change gears smooth while idling if blips where to blame

Any one got ideas where to look for? It makes driving the car no fun..

Same issue here. Driving 220 bhp car and especially from 3 to 2 it is really harsh. Texted Lukas, still no answer yet.

Using 8hp70 with its original convertor.

Noticed when i am on P1 and switch to Manual mode, downshifting them by myself is way more smoother. Last time when Lukas tried to fix it, actually made it worse. Now when downshifting from 3 to 2 is way harsher. Since it downshift manually fair enough i think it is a matter of configuration.

Hope this got resolve soon, i also find it really annoying.

Please check the firmware versions. It is best to update to the latest 10.67a

I already updated to latest firmware, also have downshifts adaptation active, but it makes no difference.. (I came from 10.6)
Down time for shifting also doesn't make a difference, in P1 it's 0, in P8 2 but no difference.

I noticed when I do some manual throttle blip ( I have no dbw yet) the downshifts are smoother, but imo it should be a lot smoother without any throttle blipping, given the fact it's also very harsh with low rpm and not that big negative engine torque..

I believe adaptations only work on gears 4 5 6 7 and 8. I was experiencing harsh shifts from 2-3 and 3-2 so made small adjustments to start% and end% in the parameter gear up and parameter gear down table. Just changing the value by 2 or 3 make aa noticeable difference.
