E90 335D Paddle Shifters not working / 6Hp to 8Hp

Post by atakanderici »

ImageHello guys,

8hp conversion has done on my 07’ E90 335D, and after that i got in to problems.

Made the harness myself.
turbolamik ECU, conneted to two CAN. One of them goes to OE ECU ( red blue and Red PlN66-67 )
other CAN connected to Yellow and Black(58-88 PlN) that comes from 6HP gearbox harness.

The car runs, no problem.
Gear selector works no problem.

We got two problems;
Paddle shifters are not working.
l got standard old type paddle shifters, that you can shift up and down on either side.

Second problem;
l cant get rid of the gearbox error on the dash.
A0B1 A0B6 error codes.

Gear box Error light disappears when car running, and appears back before start.

l really wanna know if anyone can help me with finding the right wiring diagram for these paddle shifters.
This is not a retrofit job.

You should be able to diagnose the paddle shift error yourself. Especially if you made the harness. A simple multimeter will let you confirm you are getting the correct signals in to the Lamik. A ground signal for both down and upshift via seperate inputs.

The error on the dash is probably due to not getting the park lock signal to the cas module. The 6hp shifter sends a signal to the cas when the car is in park. The lamik can emulate this via an aux output.

Thank you for your kind response. Can you elaborate on that "aux output"?

In TunerPro - with 'parameter category' set in view by, look under Output to find the aux outputs that are available. OR press and hold Ctrl then type F. Type park and search, you should see the "Parking Output" in the list. This Aux output will be active when the current gear is in 'Park'. This is what he is referencing. You can select the output that you want to use by changing the 0 to a 1 - 12. Hover over it in the parameter tree to see the list of output numbers. You will need to verify what outputs are available for this and select one.

The CAS requires a Park/Neutral input to allow the starter to enable (among other things). If you google E90 CAS you'll find several OEM style wire diagrams showing each input. The TCU has the brake and neutral outputs but I can't say what the minimum is that will be needed to clear the light/DTC on the dash.
I will assume you will also need a brake output for the CAS - but you'll need to verify that.

Hi

There is one hidden feature in bmw wiring that can do many time little issues after trans swap.

On e series thete is 2 paddle logic wirings and there is at least 10 topics where after trans swap there is missing sport mode and paddles, it still shift manual.

Issue is from steering column forward and where those upshift and downshift wirings are connected.

On old e series they are pararell to shifter, and newer ones they are trough resistor 200-400-600 ohm connected to main electronic box and trerefrom to transmission. That can be found on bmw tis where you can find 6 versions of those ( been there struggling with it)

If i remember right, fault code was something "missing one touch signal something" and in lamik, there can be parameter ready to choose from if this in one or other version

And oh, there was some grounding what was needed on one version related to trans indicator lights on side of old shifter so be sure that everything is connected in wiring

Thank you all for your responses. The paddle issue is solved.

Transmission symbol is still there when I start the car because CAS is looking for the old shifter:
I will start a new thread for this.

I have the F80 M3/M4 DKG shifter in place of the old 6HP shifter and I get the following codes:

A0B1 CAS: Input, Selector-Lever position, implausible
A0B6 CAS: Selector-lever interlock

I did not have time to play with Tuner Pro yet. Maybe there is another way around this I don't know? Is it possible to reprogram the CAS to get rid of the transmission/gear symbol?

Hello, how did you solve the gear lever problem?
My car is e93 n54 335i
I connected the cables, everything works properly, there is no warning, but the gear levers are not working. Can you help me?

To find the problem measure the voltage with a voltmeter from the paddles output wire. If no voltage is measured when pulling either pad up or at rest. Change the meter to ohms and measure if the paddles are going to ground when pulled. This will show open on the meter then when pulled it should be near 0 ohms.

If paddles are going to ground you'll need to use an analog that has an internal pull up.

If paddles do show a voltage but tunerpro does not show the paddle input as activating. Go to the dashboard and activate live data. Change the dashboard to analog inputs and monitor the analogs while you pull each paddle. If you see a change then you have the incorrect analog selected for the paddle channel. Confirm you see either 2 inputs changing for up / down or only 1 input changing. If 1 input changes you need to setup a MUX input in tunerpro.

If you do not see a change, paddles aren't going to gnd, or can't measure a voltage you need to confirm what power is being supplied to the paddles circuit. You also didn't mention if this is a retrofit or already had paddles. If it had paddles it's a 2 wire paddle setup. This will require you to run a 12v power to the paddles and use the paddle output with a MUX input on the turbolamik.
