Adjust the filter number
If you have no missing teeth on the trigger wheel the sensor is measuring then set to even number of the teeth. When you adjust 'Engine Speed Input (number of teeth)' value you need change the filter also

'Engine Speed Input Filtering' = Same as 'Engine Speed Input (number of teeth)' value

"wondering if picking up off the w terminal on the alternator would be another option?"

Does your alternator have a W+ output? I just looked up a diagram for my exact alternator (oex dxa433u), and it doesn't have a W+ pin.

My issue seems to be a signal interference, im unable to find a tach cluster wire to splice into, there's seemingly no wiring diagrams on the internet that show pinout for a diesel cluster. Im probably gonna be in for a very expensive and time costly sensor replacement unless I can get a rpm wire somewhere. Im meant to be taking the car on a week long road trip in 2 weeks time this may not be good 🫠
