Analog Switch input for selector Park position

Post by Richard.C »

I'm not quite clear reading the manual if what I am trying to do is possible.

I have a button that switches to ground, can I switch an analog input to ground to put the gearbox into park?

I'm not sure if using "Parking Signal Input" set to an analog input and then set the "Parking Signal Input Invert" would achieve it?

Or maybe it's not possible to do it with a switch to ground?

Any advice appreciated.

As a follow up to this would appreciate if anyone can let me know if I've done anything wrong.

What I have done is as follows and appears to be working okay:

Selector input set to 15
Selector Call Analog Input Switching, P (park) position set to analog input 9 (all others set to 0)
Selector Call Analog, P position set to 0 volts

Thanks

For buttons / analongs you'll have to set the 'input' used for each position. See 'Selector Call analog input switching '.

Also note there is a Selector Analog input which is different. You assign your inputs in the table I mentioned above for option 15. Also you have to have your brake input working. Then monitor your input and make sure it's not sitting at 0.0volt all the time if so you will prob need a pullup resistor to 5v (unless there is an invert available) - also added that pdf.

Thanks for the info.

I've implemented Park position using an analog input.

I've found there are two potential methods:

1. Analog switching as per the pdf in previous post.
2. Parking signal input

Method 2 required the gearbox to be in neutral before switching to Park whereas method 1 switches from Drive direct to Park.

Is there any reason to use one method over the other? Is the Parking signal input for a different purpose?

Thanks

For park / gear selection there are multiple ways.
CAN using OEM selector
CAN using OEM selector standalone
CAN using Button Pad standalone
Analog buttons using multiple analogs
Analog button for park/drive and paddles for gear selection
Variable voltage using a single input that does all the gear selection with and without paddles

The parking signal input is to allow an ECU or a button to signal park. This can be used for the DCT shifters that only shift but allow you to push a button for park.

As for your question, there is no better way, it just depends on your application. Some want to use an OEM appearing shifter which may not be supported. Someone could add switches to it and make it work. You could use a Haltech or Motec ecu to connect to an existing key pad. Then use outputs from the ECU to control the analog inputs on the TCU for gear position. I use this method a lot for the applications I build for. It's nice when the ecu can change from 'normal' driving to a 'sport' mode based on a boost value for example. But having say a bmw shifter that allows you to have 'normal', 'sport' and a manual mode all on one shifter is nice as well.
